Make a short requirement list
Write down what the item must do, the maximum space it can occupy and what you can spend after delivery. Separate essentials from preferences. A low advertised price does not help if you need an extra cable, a replacement battery or specialist installation. Compare the buyer item price, transport and any disclosed repair work against an alternative that meets the same requirements.
Read the photographs as evidence
Look for photographs of the actual item rather than a manufacturer’s image. Check all sides, labels, connectors and any visible wear. A close-up of a fault is more useful than an attractive distant image. If the description and photos disagree, ask for clarification before proceeding. Avoid assuming that accessories in the background are included. Ask for an explicit list of what comes with the item.
Ask questions that produce a useful answer
Instead of “does it work?”, ask about the function you need: whether a fridge cools steadily, a printer completes a test page, a laptop charges or a chair’s adjustment locks. Ask what has been repaired or replaced and which faults remain. Do not send identity documents, bank-card details or your exact home address through an initial seller conversation. Use the platform’s protected account and checkout fields for sensitive information.
Plan the handover before paying
For bulky goods, measure the item and every narrow doorway, stair turn and lift on the delivery route. Tell the logistics team about access constraints through the appropriate order tools. Keep collection and delivery PINs private until the handover stage. A live tracking marker is a recently reported device position, not a guaranteed arrival time; it may stop updating if location permission, signal or the driver’s browser is interrupted.
Keep a record and inspect promptly
Save the item description and read the recorded condition grade when available. After delivery, check the included parts and the relevant basic functions safely. Photograph packaging damage and differences before discarding packaging. Raise a factual report through the order if something is wrong; describe the discrepancy and attach evidence. Do not treat a marketplace inspection as an extended warranty. Return and dispute outcomes depend on the circumstances and applicable terms; this checklist does not replace statutory rights.
