Identify the exact model
A familiar product name is not enough. Ask for the model and relevant configuration: storage, memory, processor and network compatibility. Different versions can have very different capabilities. Compare the specifications with the software or work you intend to use. Avoid sharing sensitive serial or identity details in a public description; request necessary checks through the seller conversation.
Account access comes before cosmetics
A good-looking device is not usable if it remains tied to another person’s account or workplace management system. Ask the seller to remove their personal accounts and explain whether any activation or organisation-management lock remains. Never ask for the previous owner’s password. A factory reset alone is not evidence that all account locks have been removed. Decline to proceed if ownership or activation status is unclear.
Battery, screen and ports
Ask whether the device charges normally, whether the battery has been replaced and whether its condition can be shown in the device’s settings. Check for screen lines, damaged glass, touch problems and uneven backlighting. Clarify which charging ports, USB ports, camera, microphone, speakers, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions have been tested. Cosmetic wear and functional faults should be described separately. A short test is not a prediction of long-term battery life.
Accessories and running costs
Confirm whether a compatible charger, power cable, keyboard or other essential component is included. For printers, ask for a recent test page and check the cost and availability of the correct ink or toner. For consoles, ask about controller condition and included cables; do not assume that digitally licensed games transfer with the hardware. Unlicensed software should not be counted as value in a purchase decision.
Protect your data after delivery
Before adding personal information, check the item against the listing and use the manufacturer’s setup and update process. Back up important data and enable the available account security features. If a device shows unexpected management or activation prompts, document them and raise the issue in your order rather than attempting to bypass a lock. Sold To Me’s condition inspection does not certify software licences or replace a specialist diagnostic assessment.
